About us

- 1989

- Curran Packaging Company Limited was founded following a Management buy out of part of the Tube Winding operation of the Mardon Packaging Group (a subsidiary of BAT Industries). At this time the Company specialised in the manufacture of large diameter and heavy wall spiral wound fibreboard tubes. As the Company grew over the next 2/3 years it fully diversified its activities to cover the complete range of tubes from 16mm diameter to 756mm diameter.

- The Company acquires the machinery and goodwill of Kestral Converters, a trading Company of Paperun Ltd. This operation has developed over the years and in its present form is a compact unit handling precision guillotining and sheeting of various types of paper. A large percentage of this operation is associated with the storage and distribution of customer's paper.

- The Company expands its operations and moves from the site in West Thurrock to the premises it now occupies in East Tilbury 15 minutes from the M25 taking on some 40,000 sq. ft.

- 1999

- The Company acquired the machinery and goodwill of a liquidated firm Alpha Reels who manufactured cable reels. This complemented the tube winding operation since a large proportion of the cable reel product consists of a cardboard tube. This proved a useful addition and grew rapidly as we diversified into different types of cable reel.

- An opportunity arose to sell the Reels Division to Askern Saw Mills enabling us to concentrate more on the Tube Winding Division. We were now able to embark upon a comprehensive programme of replacing old equipment, increasing productivity and improving overall efficiency.

- The Company sees the arrival of a new Perkin winder capable of manufacturing tubes up to 4 feet in diameter and up to 1 inch wall thickness. This is believed to be the largest tube-winding machine in Europe at the time!

- present day

- The new millennium saw the sale of the paper conversion division to a new company 'frelor packaging ltd'. This has now enabled us to concentrate wholly on the Tube Division and with the extra space we have already bought a new high speed winder.

- The Company diversified from Spiral Wound Tubes by purchasing a new Convolute Winder capable of making large diameter tubes and increasing further our product range.

- The Company gives financial backing to a group of professional IT and electrical consultants forming a new company Curran IT & Electrical Services Ltd.

- The Company re-negotiates a new lease enabling Currans to stay at the site in East Tilbury. The company has also undergone major building renovations and improvements with expenditure on four state of the art new tube winders.

– Two of our larger winders are upgraded with improved winding heads and cutting units.

– 2 old machines are now replaced by a single new high speed winder.

, 2008, 2009 – With the aid of our Health and Safety Consultants, the Company makes improvements in all areas regarding HS. The buildings undergo further improvements enhancing the daily lives of our employees.

– The Company places an order for a new Perkin winder replacing a 25 year old machine Perkin machine.
